In Bustle’s recent cover story, Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson touched on attaining fame, her divorce, as well as the struggles with keeping her personal life away from the public eye.
In March, Face2Face Africa reported that the 35-year-old Emmy award-winner had filed for divorce from her husband after three and a half years of marriage. But it appears she wasn’t ready to announce their separation at the time it was made public.
“Even if you don’t give a lot, people want whatever they can get, and will take whatever they can get,” Brunson said to Bustle. “I remember seeing people be like, ‘She announced her divorce.’ I didn’t announce anything. I think people have this idea that people in the public eye want the public to know their every move. None of us do. I promise you.”
“No one wants [everyone] to know when you buy a house, when you move, when a major change happens in your personal life — it’s just that that’s public record information,” she added. “I hate all of it.”
Brunson, per TMZ, filed the legal documents to end her marriage to Kevin Anik in the Los Angeles County Superior Court. She stated that it was because of irreconcilable differences.
Brunson in the legal documents stated that she and Anik, who is a sales agent, had signed a postnuptial agreement. She therefore asked the court to use that agreement to determine who gets what in property allocation.
Brunson in her interview stated that despite the online talk about her personal life, she has gotten to a point where she has shut her ears to that.
“Those are invisible voices that aren’t in your home with you, that aren’t in your personal life, that aren’t your friends,” she said. “I love my fans, I love the people who watch Abbott. So you want to hear them, and you want to listen to them, but when it comes to matters of your personal life and decisions you make, you do have to tune it out.”
