After a long journey, Kobe Devot crossed the stage for his graduation ceremony on Thursday. His family was overjoyed to see his achievement.
“This story could’ve been different,” Kobe’s mother, Courtney Devot, told KSWO. “We could’ve not been watching him cross the stage but today we get to see him cross the stage and continue to fight his journey. We’re not done. God’s not done with him. He’s still got a lot to go, but having Kobe here is a blessing.”

Devot, an Eisenhower High School student, is finally healing after an accident last October left him paralyzed from the chest down.
He told the outlet, “As I was pulling in to make a right turn, I was slowing down. Then out of nowhere, we just got smacked from behind. The truck had rolled and after that, I don’t remember. They said I broke my spine. I’ve got a C5 and C6 spinal cord injury.”
Devot was airlifted to OU Medical in Oklahoma City for treatment, where he began his long road toward healing. His family and friends were kept up to date on his progress via the Facebook page “Kobe Devot Updates.”
However, more than just family members soon joined, and the Devot family soon attracted the support of people from all around the community. Close friends and even opposing football clubs were among those who provided the family with meal trains, financial help, and prayers throughout their difficult time.
According to Devot, the overwhelming support he received really aided his recovery. After numerous surgeries, his health gradually improved. He had a surprise visit from some of his IKE teammates, who inquired about him on a daily basis, which further accelerated his process.
“It really means a lot to me,” Devot said. “Because I didn’t know how many people had my back and supported me. But now seeing it, it really means a lot.”
Meanwhile, the family is still receiving donations to support Devot’s future.
